About BuildMyRotation

BuildMyRotation is an independent road-running shoe catalogue and rotation builder. It exists to answer one practical question: which shoes should I actually run in, and what is each pair for?

Why this exists

Most shoe advice starts with a product and works backwards. A rotation starts with your week: the easy days, the long run, the workout, the race. Those sessions put different demands on a shoe, and one pair rarely covers all of them well.

The site turns five answers into a small set of shoes with a job for each. It is a starting point for a real buying decision, not a claim that one shoe is universally best.

What you get

  • A rotation sized to your experience, with roles rather than a single ranking.
  • Reasons for every pick, including why a shoe fits the job and the budget.
  • Prices labelled by source: verified, manufacturer MSRP, or estimated. A price is only called checked when it actually was.
  • Guides that explain the training ideas behind the recommendations.
  • No account, no paywall, and no need to hand over your email to use the tool.

How the recommendation works

Every shoe the recommender can use carries role scores for five rotation jobs: daily, recovery, long run, tempo and race. The engine combines those scores with experience fit, goal fit, pace (if you give one), price and availability, then enforces your budget and a diversity check so the rotation is not five versions of the same shoe.

Age is a small, capped input to comfort and support. It never decides a rotation on its own. Read the full methodology.

Independence and money

BuildMyRotation is not affiliated with any retailer and currently earns no commission on purchases. Retailer links are plain links added after the ranking, so they cannot influence which shoes are recommended. No brand can pay for a place in a rotation, a score, or a guide.

If the site adds affiliate links in future, the disclosure will appear next to the links and on this page before any commission is earned.

Data, corrections and testing

Specs come from manufacturer and retailer listings, with the source recorded. Editorial role scores and ride notes are written by the editorial team. Shoes we have not tested are marked “Not yet tested” when their specs allow an estimated role score, and are listed for reference when they cannot be scored.

If a weight, stack height, price or link is wrong, tell us and include the page URL and a source. Corrections are more useful than complaints, and we will fix what we can verify.

Who writes it

Work is credited to the BuildMyRotation Editorial Team. Named contributors will be added with a real running background when they write or review a page; we do not invent bylines or credentials.
